Project narrative

A release of 4,500 litres of light fuel oil occurred from a fracture in a fuel line inside a plant room. The loss impacted the plant room and adjoining physiotherapy room, resulting in forced closure of the department.

Physical isolation of a section of the Physiotherapy Department, and design and installation of negative displacement vapour extraction system to reduce internal hydrocarbon odours/vapours.

Emergency contaminated material removal, including breaking out and removal of impacted concrete flooring, hardstanding and underlying material, as well as installation of temporary structural work to facilitate works.

Control and treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated water using Product Recovery System including pump recovery, oil water separator and Granulated Activated Carbon filtration vessels.

Phase I and Phase II site investigations to determine impacts to buildings and environment, including groundwater monitoring well installations to assess groundwater quality.

Installation of a Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE) system and in-situ remediation treatment system to treat residual contamination, thereby facilitating the urgent recommissioning of the Physiotherapy Department.

Verde provided the initial emergency remediation response to enable the continued operation of the emergency department without direct impact to building section or to internal air quality. Comprehensive site investigations were then conducted followed by a phased, unobtrusive remediation programme to facilitate the immediate reinstatement of the physiotherapy department.
