Ambient Air and Occupational Hygiene Monitoring

Project narrative

Continuous monitoring of particulate matter PM 10 , PM 5 and PM 1 within the site and at boundary locations. This included a telemetry connection to allow off-site viewing and real-time data analysis.

Long term monitoring of dust deposition around the site boundaries using the “Bergerhoff” method.

Intermittent monitoring of combustion gases (Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulphur Dioxide), Acid Gases, Ozone, and Hydrocarbons in ambient air over fortnightly intervals.

Risk assessment and occupational hygiene monitoring of selected personnel.

Evaluation of results against baseline levels from 2014 and comparison with environmental and occupational standards.

Provision of recommendations and mitigation measures to minimise any potential environmental, occupational or nuisance effects.

This project involved the monitoring of air quality at a site in Derry.

Monitoring was completed prior to the development of a neighbouring biomass plant in 2014 and again in 2017 during the operation of the biomass plant to investigate potential environmental impacts worker occupational hygiene concerns.

The survey included an assessment of conditions against baseline conditions (2014) as well as an assessment against environmental and occupational legislative standards.
