The Local Government (Water Pollution) (Amendment) Bill 2018 was initiated on 27 September 2018 with the purpose to amend the provisions of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act 1977 (the “1977 Act”) to provide for the granting of discharge licences by a water services authority for the development of single houses.
The Bill proposes to amend s. 4 of the 1977 Act, which deals with trade and sewage effluent licences, by inserting a new subsection to allow a water services authority to grant waste water discharge licences to single house developments. The Bill requires the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to introduce regulations to provide for the application procedures for these new “single house” waste water discharge licences.
